Challenge

Marking 30 years of the Centro de Biotecnologia at Instituto Butantan meant turning three decades of dense scientific work, including vaccines, biopharmaceuticals, and genomics, into a printed piece that would still read as credible to the researchers it documented, while working as a keepsake for a wider audience.

Solution

A cover pairs a restrained serif logotype with a blurred field of journal text and a photograph of a lab vial, setting the tone for the book. Inside, each research area, such as Biofármacos or Genômica, opens on a teal band with a pull-quote and a boxed headline, then settles into a disciplined two-column grid of body text, captioned lab photography, and small-set bibliography. One divider spread breaks from the grid entirely, repeating the word "associações" across a letter grid, with a line traced through it like a data curve, pattern doing the work of an illustration.

Success

The finished book holds the rigor of an institutional record, with citations, patent notes, and captioned specimens, inside a consistent editorial system, so 30 years of research reads as a designed publication rather than a bound report.
